Lacrosse has existed in Portugal since 2008 with a few men interested in learning the sport and gathering in Lisboa on the weekends for practices. They formed a team and began participating in tournaments such as the Lisboa Lacrosse Cup and the Eurolax Sixes. Portugal Lacrosse soon expanded to a women's team with it's first established National Team participating at the European Championship in July of 2024.

Portugal Lacrosse is governed and managed by the Portugal Lacrosse Board which was re-established in January of 2025.
